Yeji Lim, an integrated M.S.–Ph.D. student in Sogang University’s Department of Electronic Engineering advised by Professor Hongseok Kim, has been selected for the 2026 Doctoral Student Research Grant Program administered by the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF).

Part of the NRF’s academic research support initiative in science and engineering, the program supports full time doctoral and integrated M.S.–Ph.D. students at Korean universities in pursuing creative, challenging, and self-directed research.

This project, “An AI-Optimization Integrated Framework for Fast and Feasible Solutions to Transmission-Constrained Unit Commitment,” aims to combine AI and numerical optimization to rapidly produce generator operating schedules that satisfy grid constraints. The research will employ neural networks that reflect the mathematical structure of optimization problems, alongside unsupervised learning. AI-generated schedules will be refined and validated using numerical optimization to improve computational efficiency and reliability.

The research is expected to support reliable and efficient power system operation and advance AI-based optimization of engineering systems.
